Black Rock Desert and Beyond

This weekend Tamara and I took a trip out to the Black Rock Desert and High Rock Canyon to see a few cool sites, take a few pictures on the desert playa and explore some other cool sites like Lund Petrified Forrest. We did not end up getting to Lund as we took a spud road across to Little High Rock Canyon. It’s a little explored area and we saw some interesting wind sculptures. We did not play out the entire trail but I see on Google Earth that there is more to explore there. But had we not turned down Little Canyon we would have hit the Lund Petrified Forrest. Oh well, goals for this summer.

We headed back near dark opting to see the sun set on the playa. We were set to camp on this trip but with weather coming in that night and bringing high winds with it, we opted not to stay. We also still had snow around us indicating cold nights.

This is let one leg of a 3 leg trip from Reno to Black Rock Desert, The Alvord Desert , then overland then Bend Oregon. We have a few additions to the Gladiator before summer as well as our JK. Then on to an eastern trip visiting Moab and its surrounding area, Colorado, Kansas and Missouri and back in April. Hopefully summer brings us exploration of some of the Ruby range and possible Wyoming and Montana.
